Backporch Stones

Backporch Stones
Those of you that know me have heard me talk about my friend Mike Metze. Let me tell you some background. When I first started in the stadium business nation(14 years ago), I was supposed to go to the University of Texas and meet with a local high school band director at X time and at X gate. Well, the band director was Mike Metze. I had no idea what I was doing and neither did he. But we figured it out in time.

He does not know this but he will now. You know those people that come in your life and you're not sure why but you're just glad they did? Well he is one of those people for me. I was 18 years old and I remember hating when the first season was over because I would not interact with my new friend for another year. So time rolls on and I learned my new friend had some entrepreneurialship in him. I have probably learned more from what he does not say than what he says. You would never know his age because he does not act it. You can tell how in love he is with his wife by the lack of comments he makes when a cute girl goes by.

Lots of little things like that I have watched for the past 14 years. He was  the band director for the first nine years then he retired. I asked him to keep helping me. He is the only one that can handle that account. He also has been  through all the girlfriends, different staff members, I have had - well I will just say he has been a great friend for 14 years and then through all the things that have gone on with me in that timeframe.

He never complains, never says he is tired, and is always willing to help. There have been times he had to get to the stadium at 5 AM and times he could not leave the stadium till 4 AM. Never a complaint. I think another reason I am drawn to him is he is very positive and solution oriented. I literally could not have grown my stadium business without him. I look forward to the next 14 years. Thank you for all your help, friendship, and humor. Check out www.mikemetze.com

Littleone

Littleone
I have had a few people ask me if I would take  Littleone  back since she is now divorced. Easy answer = no.

Number one: The divorce rate on first marriages is 56%. The divorce rate on second marriages is 86%!

Number two: She could not stay committed to me and I was the long-term boyfriend. Plus, she could not stay committed to the next one and he was her husband!

Number three: An excellent predictor of future behavior is relevant past behavior.

Number four: Her mother has been married three times - her dad has been married three times. Children live what they learn - she's only got two more to go.

Number five: Last is I don't even know who I dated? Our whole relationship was a lie. So I really miss what I thought I had.

iPad

 iPad
In five days I will have my iPad. I am so excited! It's supposed to be delivered on Friday. I will be in Spokane, Washington(Brooks & Dunn Concert) so I called Apple and changed the shipping address so it will come to me there.

Little Blonde

Little Blonde
I heard from an old friend of mine today that I have not heard from in a long time. She said she did not know Little Blonde but she heard that Little Blonde wants her jewelry back. (she left a few pieces of jewelry at my house). First, I believe my friend when she says she does not know the Little Blonde and has never met her.

Number two, I think it's so weird that my friend and her friends talk about Little Blonde's jewelry! It's not like she left a Rolex and diamond rings here and I ebayed  them.  She left a few silver bracelets which I have already returned to her last week. But my bigger point is don't they have anything more interesting to talk about?

When Leo was in Austin for South by Southwest he showed a Twit pillow  that I thought was cool. I mention this (Twit pillow) in addition to Little Blonde because being the sweet Little Blonde that she was, she tried  to order one for me but they were not in stock. I tell you this for two reasons. Reason one is to illustrate the sweetness of Little Blond. Reason two, the pillows are now in stock and I want one. So if anyone out there would like to get one for me here is my shipping address

Amanda Nail

I found this blog by Amanda Nail. I don't know her but I like the way she thinks.  Check out her Blog, in the about me she writes:

BE YOURSELF, BE CONFIDENT, SMILE WITH YOUR HEART, SEDUCE WITH YOUR EYES. ♥ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. I like getting goosebumps for other reasons then being cold. You only live once...spend your life with the people whom you love and make you happy doing the things you love and that make YOU truly happy. Cheers ;) XOXO

I would love to meet her sometime. She seems very unique and smart! Be sure to check out her post "L O V E at First Sight"

The M-Word, Littleone, and Brooks & Dunn

Well, yes I would like to talk about  all three of these: The M-Word, Little One, and Brooks & Dunn. First off, I don't know why but the M-Word has been on my mind a lot here lately.

As most of you know, I am a huge Brooks & Dunn fan. They have been together 20 years, and now they are calling it quits. For some reason this is very sad to me. I tie my emotions to places and things a lot. The first date, if you want to call it that, that the M-Word and I went on was to a Brooks & Dunn concert. And so just the fact that I'm going to see them in the same location that we saw them in together, and then I know I will never see them again is saddening to me.

Just to clear something up right quick, I'm going to see Brooks & Dunn in Spokane, Washington where a friend of mine  lives. But I am also going to see Brooks & Dunn in Dallas in May. I'll never forget the time that I took the M-Word, and we were very close to the stage, and Ronnie Dunn uses a drumstick to hit the cowbell during the song "Rock My World Little Country Girl" and then throws the drumstick to the crowd. Well, I caught that drumstick for the M-Word. I wonder if she still has it? I wonder if she even thinks about things like that anymore? Do things like that ever cross your mind? Or are they just distant memories that she tries to forget? I have not seen her or talked to her in a very long time. But the last time I did see her she was absolutely beautiful! But she was still emotionally unavailable to me, and that's been the story of our life.

What does Brooks & Dunn have to do with Little One? Oddly enough Little One and I never did get to see Brooks & Dunn together. We saw Shania five times. But just never made it to Brooks & Dunn. And that is something I always wanted to share with her. If you don't know, I will tell you but Little One is getting a divorce. By now she might already be divorced. In fact, Little Buddy ran into her in a bar with another guy other than her husband, so she really isn't wasting any time getting back to her old ways. I don't care what anyone says, I do think that we had magical times together.

Sometimes people don't realize how lonely it really can get. It appears that I have this fantastic lifestyle where I get to travel constantly and go to exotic places and meet all these unique people. But at the end of the day sometimes you want to just lay down and be close to someone you love, and you know loves you back.

Little Blonde

You know I was thinking about a few things, and they may not be all that popular. But nevertheless there are a few thoughts that I have.
One of the reasons I have always told people that I do not want to get married was because I was not sure that I could ever find someone that would comment on the same level I would comment on. Once again, those of you that know me know, the definition of commitment is doing the thing you said you would do long after the feeling you said it in has left you.  So this recent experience with Little Blonde brought up a very interesting issue.
She told me that she loved me. She told me she loved me quite often not just once but she told me this regularly.  Well it's been about nine days since I've seen her. And it's been about seven days or so since I've talked her. So is it just me, am I just from a different generation? But if seven days ago you were telling someone that you loved them, and now there is no communication at all that seems a bit odd? By the way by no means do I intend on indicating that little blonde has done anything wrong. My point is are more general in if someone tells you they love you, and in seven days later they're gone that's not good.

So I guess the real question is what is the definition of Love?
Okay I will finish with this. Everyone that knows me knows that I have abandonment issues. That's no secret. And the one thing that Little Blonde did say repeatedly was Johnny don't worry,  I am not going to leave you.

Okay I am to go ahead and this on the blog, without sending it to the editor, so it will get out a little faster. So if it is not exactly grammatically correct or there are some spelling mistakes I'm sorry.

Little Blonde, iPad

 Little Blonde and iPad
A lot of you don't know who Little Blonde is, and a lot of you think you know who the Little Blonde is but you really don't. Let me tell you just a little bit about her. She was dealt a very hard hand to deal with, but I think that she has done very well for herself. She can be very kind, giving, sweet, caring, and a good person. I really hope that she finds what she's looking for. And I really mean that. I think deep down she doesn't think that she's worth very much, but I'm here to tell you that she's worth a lot. And she better hold out for the best.

I will say that Little Blonde broke my four year streak. So does this mean I'm going to have to wait another four years? I did really enjoy having a little blonde to share things with. One thing about her though, she wasn't very interested nor did she want to become interested in my life/business. I think that is what it's going to take to keep me interested. Someone that wants to be involved in this unique lifestyle that I live.

Well, we finally have a ship date for the iPad, April 30. Ironically enough I'm going to be in Spokane, Washington on April 30. I just got off the phone with Apple and changed the shipping address to Spokane. I know it may be silly to get so excited about all this technology stuff, but at least I have something to get excited about. So on April 30, I should get my ipad, and also on April 30, I'm going to see Brooks & Dunn in concert that's titled, The Last Rodeo. I'm going to write more about this later. It's very sad that this is the last tour.

Better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all

For some reason this quote popped in my head today that Little One used to always tell me. She used to always say, " Better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all." Well I think that quote is full of crap. I will back up my reasons and then I'm curious if any of you have any comments on this.

1. It's like having a Jaguar or Lamborghini and someone takes it away from you. While I wouldn't say, "Its better to have had a Jaguar or Lamborghini than never to have had one at all." If I can't keep the Jaguar or the Lamborghini than I had rather not have one at all.

2. Could you say the same about cocaine, "better to have tried cocaine than never to have tried it at all?"

3. Well there is no number three. I just think this quote "Better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all" is crap. If you had never loved at all, you wouldn't have any idea what you were missing. It's kind of like driving the Lamborghini, if you've never driven a Lamborghini then you wouldn't know what you are missing. How could you get sad or depressed or upset or miss the Lamborghini if you never had it to begin with?

I'm thinking of my friend Little Buddy. He is 24 or 25 and he has never loved at all. Maybe I should say he's never been in love before. He seems to go about his life just fine, because he has no idea what he's missing. So truly it makes me think of it like a cocaine or drug addict. You just can't tell me that drug addicts would say, "Better to have tried the drug than to never have tried it at all." From then on, they spend their whole life trying to find the feeling they had when they were using the drug.

Now the question is, could love be a drug? And then when you don't have it, you are constantly searching for it? Just in case I haven't made myself clear, and Little One happens to read this post, I think that quote and her thought is total crap unless someone else can convince me otherwise.

Oh yes one last thing, let's get some comments going on this blog. I welcome any comments, questions or thoughts. You can leave a comment anonymously, if you choose, but I'm curious of what some of you have to think about these ideas/posts that I have. And don't just e-mail them to me directly, leave a comment on the blog. There something to be said for a good healthy debate.
