Littleone and I drove to San Antonio to get the new puppy because they can't put puppies on the little airplanes that come to San Angelo. We had her for about a week and just could not decide on a good name. Then Littleone comes up with Pacey. I thought it was perfect. Here she is as a puppy.
Instantly Mattie and Pacey were best buddies. Usually one dog is dominant but not in this case, they are more like sisters that fight ever once in a while but really love each other. I thought with Pacey I wanted to really invest the time, energy, and effort to train both her and me. I always wanted a dog that could be around people and be super friendly but at the same time if there was any danger towards me she would chew their leg off. I did a little research and found the the company that trains the dogs for the Austin Police Department. I took Pacey down there for a little interview. She was still very young but they said that's when they wanted to “interview” her. They put me in touch with the main man that runs that division, his name was Chris, and he was super nice and knowledgeable. Chris told me that if I were willing to make the drive to Austin he would work with us. I was looking for places in Austin because I was there half of the year anyway for my stadium business.
When I say work with us I really mean that. A lot of people think that it's just training the dog but it's a lot of training you as well. This training isn't just a couple of times, we went to see Chris over the course of a couple of years. I really learned a lot and so did Pacey. When we got done Chris even certified her as a service dog and got her a service dog vest. Let me back up for just one second here. This isn't the first training that I've had with dogs. When I had Katy I found a guy here in San Angelo who was retired. He trained all the border patrol dogs. They had sent him to school in North Carolina, and that's literally all he did was train dogs. He did not work with the public except in rare cases. He said he always got frustrated because people would not spend the time, energy, and effort to work with their dog they just wanted him to train their dog. He did work with Katy and me because he knew I was serious. But with Katy I only wanted to achieve certain things. By the time I got Pacey my border patrol friend had passed away. The point of all of that is Katy did not go everywhere with me, Pacey goes everywhere with me.
My border patrol friend told me to get a crate and let the puppy sleep right next to my bed starting on day one. That would bond her to me. Since Pacey was eight weeks old she has either slept right next to my bed or on top of my bed. Since I have the service dog vest I literally take her everywhere with me. For example I get ........
